Abstract:

Objective

To evaluate the feasibility and safety of endovascular treatment of very small intracranial aneurysms with sole coiling.

Methods

The consecutive data were collected from 42 patients with very small intracranial aneurysms treated with solo coiling. Comprehensive methods, named choice of appropriate patient, ideal microcatheter shaping, retrograde microcatheter shift technique and soft coil usage were applied.

Results

Successful treatment of very small intracranial aneurysms was obtained in all cases. The proportion of patients in whom totally occluded was obtained was 83.6% (n=35), subtotally occluded was achieved in 9.5% (n=4) and partly occluded in 7.1% (n=3). The procedural rupture rate during the treatment procedure for very small intracranial aneurysms was 4.8%(2/42).

Conclusions

It is feasible to treat very small intracranial aneurysms with solo coiling for appropriate patients; the procedural rupture rate can significantly reduce through a variety of technical means.

Key words: Very small aneurysms, Coil
