Calculation of radial dose distribution of 125I radioactive particle chain by 3D treatment planning system

Abstract:

Objective:

To calculate the radial dose distribution of 125I radioactive particle chain with different lengths, distances and activities using the three dimensional treatment planning system (3D-TPS) .

Methods:

The single, double and three 125I radioactive particle chains were implanted into the equivalent human body membrane and scanned by MSCT. The radial dose distribution of particle chains was calculated on 3D-TPS after the scanned images were imported.

Results:

The dose field of 125I radioactive particle chain was cylindrical, which dropped fast if the distance was more than 1 cm from the 125I chain. The regression equations of single, double and three 125I cumulative dose (dose, Gy) , seed activity (activity, mCi) and distance from the center (cm) were: ln dose=43.3 activity-24.2 distance+48.4; ln dose=95.4 activity-55.8 distance+112.0; ln dose=138.0 activity-79.8 distance+160.5.

Conclusion:

The dose field of 125I radioactive particle chain is mainly affected by the seed activity and radial distance from center, while the affection of 125I radioactive particle chain length is weak. The measurement results can provide reference for clinical application.
