Abstract:

Objective:

To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of Semen Juglandis combined with prostatic arterial embolization in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP) .

Methods:

From January 2012 to November 2006, 10 patients with BPH were treated with arterial embolization. On the day after operation, the patients were administered with 2 g Semen Juglandis after being infused in hot water or decoction, 3 times/d, for 7 d. The changes of international prostate symptom score (IPSS) , quality of life score (QOL) , maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax) and residual urine (RU) preoperative and postoperative 1 month were compared. Another comparison is made between preoperative and postoperative 6 months.

Results:

Ten patients underwent embolization of 16 prostate artery, 4 cases of unilateral embolism and 6 cases of bilateral embolization. Compared with preoperative indexes, in postoperative 6 months, IPSS was significantly improved [ (28.30±3.27) vs. (4.40±1.17) , P<0.05], and QOL was significantly improved (5.10±1.52 vs. (1.00±0.47) , P<0.05]; Qmax was significantly improved [ (7.05±2.72) vs. (15.08±1.45) , P<0.05], and RU was significantly reduced [ (120.00±70.18) vs. (17.50±7.55) , P<0.05].

Conclusions:

Semen Juglandis combined with prostatic arterial embolization is feasible and effective for treating BHP.
