Abstract:

Bronchial artery embolization (BAE) is to inject the embolized material into the bronchial artery directionally and embolize the responsible vessel to achieve the effect of rapid hemostasis. It has become the preferred treatment for patients with severe hemoptysis who fail to receive conservative treatment. Currently, there are many kinds of embolization materials used in clinic, which can be adapted to different sites, different etiologies and different pathological bases including mechanical embolization material spring coil, liquid embolization material N-Butyl-2-Cyanoacrylate (NBCA) , widely used gelatine sponge (GSA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) particles and gradually popularized microspheres. This article aims to review the types, characteristics, application scope and disadvantages of embolization materials.

Key words: Hemoptysis, Bronchial artery embolization, Embolic materials
