Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the effects of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) therapy under a mobile health service model on the psychological resilience and self-efficacy of caregivers with home-bound disabled elders undergoing percutaneous transhepatic cholangial drainage recovery (PTCD).

Methods

The study enrolled 110 primary caregivers of disabled elders who underwent PTCD between March 2024 and May 2025 within a designated district of Shanghai. Participants were randomly assigned using a digital random table to either an intervention group or a control group (n=55). The experimental group received a self-developed mobile nursing information support mini-program equipped with "MBSR training," while the control group received routine postoperative psychological care. Both groups were assessed before and after intervention using the Psychological Resilience Scale, Self-Efficacy Scale, and Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale.

Results

Following the intervention, the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher total scores on psychological resilience and self-efficacy compared to both the control group and baseline levels (P<0.05). In contrast, the control group showed only a statistically significant difference in the strength dimension of the psychological resilience scale compared to baseline (P<0.05), while other dimensions were not statistically significant (P>0.05). Among the three dimensions of negative emotions (depression, anxiety, and stress), the experimental group scored significantly lower than the control group only in the stress dimension (P<0.05).No statistically significant differences were observed in the other dimensions (P>0.05).

Conclusion

The mobile nursing information support mini-program equipped with “MBSR training” can enhance the psychological resilience and self-efficacy among caregivers of disabled elders undergoing PTCD, demonstrating significant potential for broad social application.
