Abstract:
Objective Analyze the difference in curative effect of patients of different age groups and different types of intervertebral disc herniation after receiving ozone (O3) injection of lumbar intervertebral disc, and provide a basis for the choice of clinical treatment.
Methods A total of 476 patients with lumbar disc herniation (aged between 14-85 years old, single responsibility disc) who were treated at Nanfang Hospital from January 2009 to June 2019 were followed up. According to the MRI images and the imaging manifestations during O3 injection under DSA, we classified lumbar disc herniation into four types: Type Ⅰ: ruptured annulus fibrosus with herniated nucleus pulposus, TypeⅡ: ruptured annulus fibrosus withnon-protruding nucleus pulposus, Type Ⅲ : annulus fibrosus non-ruptured with herniated nucleus pulposus, and type Ⅳ: annulus fibrosus non-ruptured with non-protruding nucleus pulposus. The VAS score was used as a standard for evaluating the efficacy. We recorded the VAS scores of patients before surgery, 1 week, 1 month, 6 months and 12 months after surgery and compared them.
Results O3 injection of lumbar intervertebral disc has a good effect on pain relief in patients. The reduction of herniation can be observed after treatment in patients with herniated intervertebral disc. Among clinical characteristics such as age, gender, course of disease, and prominent type, age was the only factor that was negatively correlatedwith postoperative VAS. The curative effect of patients in different age groups was related to the classification. The young and middle-aged patients have the best curative effect in type Ⅰ and the worst curative effect in type Ⅳ.The elderly group has the best curative effect in type Ⅱ and the worst effect in type Ⅲ.
Conclusions Lumbar intervertebral disc O3 injection is an effective method for the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, but different types of patients have different curative effects among different age groups. In clinical treatment, different treatment options should be selected based on the characteristics of patients.
