Abstract:

Objective:

To study the therapeutic effect, survival time and complications of transcatheter portal vein chemoembolization (PVCE) in the treatment of liver metastases from colorectal cancer.

Methods:

80 cases of colorectal cancer with pathologically confirmed liver metastases were collected and randomly divided into two groups. In the treatment group, 40 patients underwent PVCE while in the control group 40 patients underwent TACE.

Results:

The rate of CR+PR is 82.5% in PVCE group and 55.0% in TACE group. It also showed a statistical significance of t 6, 12, and 24 months survivals as 92.5%, 62.5% and 40.0% in PVCE group, while that in the TACE group were 75.0%, 52.5% and 22.5%, respectively.

Conclusions:

In treating hepatic metastasis from colorectal cancer, the PVCE has a better therapeutic effect with a higher survival rate and longer survival time in comparison with TACE.

Key words: Colorectal neoplasms, Hepatic metastasis, PVCE, TACE
